Ants

In Britain, ants are likely to enter houses regularly. They nest in grass, walls, and under paving outside before entering properties on the search for food.

The nests around plant roots makes soil dry which attracts greenfly, another pest which likes the sugary honeydew secretions. These nests can also damage any food being grown for human consumption.

In order to locate an ants nest, the trail is followed and the nest must be destroyed to control the infestation by applying insecticide treatments in and around the nest at strategic points.

Cockroaches

Usually found in commercial premises, cockroaches are mainly attracted to places associated with the production or handling of food. They are however also found in public buildings and domestic premise, spending the day hiding in cracks and crevices around sinks, drains, cookers, the backs of cupboards and in refrigerator motor compartments.

Cockroaches can carry various diseases and feast on things such as fermenting substances, hair, faeces and food for human consumption.

Controlling cockroaches is carried out with regular surface sprays to ensure all of them are caught, and by using insecticidal baits to lure them out of hiding places.

Fleas

There are many different types of fleas which nest on various hosts including animals and humans. They can spread diseases and infections to each of their hosts and need to be caught and eradicated quickly.

Cleaning premises regularly will stop fleas from breeding as they're associated with soiled sites. They can be controlled with individually tailored treatments for their hoses and rodentcides when they've been brought in on rats and mice.

Bedbugs

Bedbugs are usually found in the bedrooms of domestic premises and are associated with low standards of hygiene. They hide in cracks and come out at night to feed on their hosts' blood.

To get rid of bedbugs, the premises will need to be treated thoroughly with suitable insecticides.

Carpet Beetles

The two types of carpet beetles are pests of animal products and occasionally food products and are found wherever these commodities are stored. Warm, dry conditions are ideal for them but they can survive in foodstuffs of very low moisture content.

All sources of infestation should be removed and burnt where possible, followed by regular cleaning. Insecticide is then used to ensure all larvae are killed.
